What Causes Gambling Addiction?

Are you addicted to gambling? Do you ever wonder how that happened? Well, by exploring the actual causes, you can quit at will.

There are a lot of causes that make people fall into gambling addiction, several of which are obvious and several of which aren’t. The easiest causes that can be seen include dissatisfaction and unhappiness with one’s life. The less obvious ones include subconscious negative thoughts and a type A personality.

See, if people are dissatisfied and unhappy with their lives, they will end up looking for something that can make them happy, i.e. gambling, drinking overeating. By looking for an instant fix to satisfaction and happiness, gambling comes around because it is, in fact, instant. What you need to do is find other small things that you can enjoy and look forward to aside from gambling.

One other cause to gambling addiction might be the connection to negative life events, like job loss or partner loss; the grief could trigger the addiction. In this case, it would be vital to get counseling or turn to self-help books that will help you hand your loss and let go. Letting go can give you the power to live and grow for your future again.

The less obvious causes of gambling addiction would include a type A personality, which means that you have a drive to keep gambling so you can win. You probably think that by gambling enough, you can figure out the secret to winning all the time. Are you convinced you have the greatest poker face, that you have figured out the slots machine or that you have total control over what you gamble? Do you believe that it is all just a game? You need to remember that gambling is called gambling for a reason: there is no guarantee of winning – ever.

One other less obvious cause of gambling addiction might be the subconscious negative messages in your mind. For instance, as a child, were you told that playing cards was a bad thing and would lead to a gambling addiction? Were you told that by buying lotto tickets, you would be considered a gambler? If such negative messages were regularly given to you, your subconscious might have held on to it, so that’s how you lived your life. Your best bet of getting rid of these messages would be through hypnotherapy or hypnosis.

Hopefully, these causes helped you figure out your own gambling addiction and hopefully, you can find your own way out somehow and overcome it. Good luck!
